I Am Grateful...

In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, we are writing about people we are grateful for...

Isaac~ I am thankful for my uncle playing baseball with me.  He taught me how to do a handstand.  I am thankful for my uncle watching movies with me.  I am thankful for my uncle making legos with me.  I am thankful for my dad for playing catch with me and for teaching me how to be a good catcher.  I am thankful for my dad letting me hang out with my friends.  I am thankful for my mom teaching me how to cook.  I am thankful for my mom teaching me how to draw.  She also plays board games with me.  Our favorite one is Battle Ship.  I am also thankful for my grandpa and his stories about when he was in the war.  I am thankful for my grandpa letting me use his remote control submarines.  I am thankful for my Uncle Ben for showing me some fireworks and letting me use his airsoft guns.

Sayler~ I am thankful for my dad because he works really hard for my family.  Sometimes when he comes home he brings something cool, like a really old radio, because he is a contractor and finds things at his work sites.  Every time he comes home he has a big smile on his face.  Because he is a contractor he has lots of tools and he lets me play with them.  We also go sledding and snowboarding.

Taelynn~  I am grateful for my friend, Milan, because she is always beside me to catch me when I fall, to play with me, to sit with me at lunch, and to just be my friend.  I am also thankful for my dance teacher, Aisha.  I am thankful for her because she teaches me how to dance, and I love to dance.  I am thankful for my mom.  She cooks food for me, watches over me, takes care of my little sister, always compliments me, and loves me so, so much.

Joe~ I am grateful for my dad.  He likes to play games with me, and he makes the money that pays for our food, is nice to me, and he is really, really fun and funny.  He also likes doing things with me, such as:  going rafting, going on a rollercoaster without vomiting, liking playing video games with me, and he likes skiing with me.  That is why I am thankful for my dad.

Kaila~ I am grateful for my friend, Kayla, because she is always there for me, she has my back and she brings out the creativity in me.  Also, she is promising and trustworthy.  I believe our friendship is built on that.  I am also thankful for my mom.  She is very kind to me, and soft hearted.  She is really loving.  She is always there when I need her, and when I need a shoulder to cry on she is there for me.

Peach~  I am grateful for my mom.  She gives me a home, food, and hugs!  She makes some of the money in our family, so she is able to pay for a lot of things that I need.  I am also thankful for my dad.  He plays with me a lot, and he works really hard to provide for our family.

Allie~  I am thankful for my dad, because he works hard to keep a roof over our heads, food on the table, water to drink, and warmth.  When ever he comes home, which is usually around dinner time, me and my sister always run up to him and give him a big hug, because that is our way to thank him for all of his hard work.  When he gets a day off, he always uses that time to have fun with me, my sister and my mom.  My dad also helps me out.  He is always there when I am frustrated with my homework or when I need help carrying something.  I know he will do anything to help hold our family together.  He also saves up for some of our trips, because we usually hope to go to the east coast to see my relatives or to save up for a family trip.  I remember the day we got tickets to New York...he said that we were going somewhere special this summer.  I am sure that I did eight laps around the house because I was so excited.  My dad rocks!

Milan~  I am thankful for my Uncle Bill, because when the Olympic track and field trials were in Eugene, he called my mom and asked her if Alexa and I would go to it with him.  It took a long time for my mom to answer but she said yes!  We had a great time.  I am also thankful for my Uncle Matt, because when he got ill he didn't give up.  He just slept in my grandpa's chair, and slept, slept, slept. When he passed away, at age 63, because of lung cancer, I was really sad.  :o(  That last time I saw him was on my birthday during the Superbowl 2011.  He would always take care of me when I hurt myself and he helped to teach me how to make lemonade.

Taelynn's Mom, Summer~  I am thankful for my beautiful daughters, Taelynn and Edahlia.  They are constantly a reminder about how amazing life's blessings can be.  Their laughter, heart's of gold, and vibrant personalities never cease to surprise me.  I love watching them grow and learn, and am so thankful to be their mama.  I am also thankful for my incredibly loving husband.  He is my best friend, my rock, and my better half.  His constant love for his daughters, affection for me, kindness and strength make me fall more and more in love with him every single day.  He works hard to provide for our family and it allows me the opportunity to stay home and give my girls my complete commitment to being there for them in all aspects of life, and I am forever grateful for that.  Many, many people to be grateful for this year...we are all very blessed, indeed.

Our Learning Trip to Crater Lake

On September 18, 2012, Mark Sherbow's fourth grade class took a bus to Crater Lake.  We learned how the lake was formed and about how the animals adapt for the long winter with lots of snow. It was an amazing day!

Quad Bloggers Celebrate Equinox!

This is the Earth's position during the September equinox.

Hi all! In our class, we have been learning about equinoxes. An equinox is when the Earth is not tilted towards or away from the Sun, and the Sun's rays are hitting directly at the Equator. We decided this would be an interesting thing to write about because during an equinox, night and day are nearly the exact same length- 12 hours- all over the world. This is the reason it's called an "equinox," which in Latin means "equal night!"  Here in the northern hemisphere, this autumnal equinox marks the beginning of fall. Do you do anything to celebrate or acknowledge the equinoxes?

Our Second Learning Trip to Hobart Bluff

This is Pilot Rock.  When you hike on it, it gets tricky because it is all rock and you can't get good traction under your feet.  The view from Hobart Bluff was beautiful.  The walk up was very tiring because it was such a steep climb.  It took about an hour to hike up, and only about fifteen minutes to come back down.  ~  Milan

Our First Learning Trip ~ Ashland Pond

Checking out the Ponderosa Pines
On September 6, our class went to the Ashland Pond to learn about the Ponderosa Pine.  The Ashland Pond is a community and school project set up to rebuild the natural habitat that surrounds the ponds in Ashland, Oregon.  The Pond provides a unique learning experience in which we can be hands-on in teaching children about restoration, natural habitats, and community involvement.

Anissa ~ 9-10-12

We learned about a Ponderosa Pine.  We learned that in the winter the needles don't fall off of the trees.  I wondered how old the tree is.  I drew the tree upside down, and then changed my mind and drew the two top branches going up.  My favorite part was eating blackberries and going into a tunnel.

Kaila ~ 9-10-12

We walked to the pond on a very hot day.  We looked at the Ponderosa Pine in two groups.  It was an amazing tree because the bark looked like someone had painted.  It is cool, because in winter the needles stay where they are, so it is green year-round.  I drew the tree and added the detail of the bark.  My favorite part of the trip was eating the blackberries and going into a cave.  The tree was very beautiful to look at.

Isaac ~ 9-10-12

I got to measure the water temperature at the pond with a yellow stick.  We watched the red dye go up and it told us how warm the pond was.  We picked blackberries and ate them.  We learned that the Ponderosa Pine has pine cones on the very top.  The bark of the tree looks like puzzle pieces.  The weather was really warm, and we got to see a tree that had seeds inside pods that looked like a zucchini.  My favorite part was eating the blackberries.  They were kind of sour.

Gabe ~ 9-10-12

When we went to the ponds I got to see ducks, fish, and lots of algae.  We got to measure the water temperature. The pond temperature is 28 degrees. I drew a picture of the Ponderosa Pine, and I learned that it never looses it's needles and it's scientific name is pinus ponderosa.  On our way back to school a squirrel ran right through a group of girls and they all screamed.  It was pretty hilarious.
