Our Learning Trip to Crater Lake

On September 18, 2012, Mark Sherbow's fourth grade class took a bus to Crater Lake.  We learned how the lake was formed and about how the animals adapt for the long winter with lots of snow. It was an amazing day!

  1. To Mr Sherbow's Fourth Grade,
Wow you are all so lucky three field trips already this year!
I hope you have enjoyed them and learnt lots from the trips I know that Room 11 really enjoy having the experience themselves of being there. If we write recounts about fun and different experiences we have had our writing is always more descriptive and interesting too. We went inside caves at the beginning of the year (Waitomo Caves-they are a big tourist attraction for New Zealand and took us just under an hour on the bus to get too from school) to learn about change and how the rock formations change over thousands of years. We all had so much fun and learnt so much just from that one day outside our classroom. Isn't it funny that we can still learn even when we are not in class. Where we live in New Zealand, Hamilton (the city we are in) doesn't get snow so our animals don't have to adapt to temperatures as cold as yours. We can drive south about 2.5 hours and we have some good ski fields though.
I am sure you are all getting to know your classmates really well with all these field trips too! Enjoy the rest of your week.

  2. You have some amazing class outdoor trips! I'm very jealous.
Is that something that all of your school does or just your class?
We need to try to develop some more outdoor learning using the spaces we have around school.

  3. Hi!
We were excited to look at the pictures of Crater Lake. Mathias has been to Crater Lake. He jumped in the lake and said the water was warm.
Mathias said he saw a sign that said it was the deepest lake in the United States.
Field trips are so much fun!
